The True Love Meaning of Easter

THE BEST FRIDAY

Submitted by: Cam Sasser

My husband and I have always tried to make the Easter weekend special, and to bring our focus onto the real meaning of the Holiday.

Starting early on Good Friday, we read the scriptures that describe Jesus' arrest, "trial", and crucifixion.  Then throughout the day, especially at 9am, 12 noon, and 3pm, we prayerfully focus on the events that happened on that first Good Friday long ago.

That evening we have a nice dinner together at home, and we get out our VHS copy of "Jesus" (by the Jesus Film Project).  We watch the movie all the way through, pausing often for comments and observations. It's such an awesome experience!  It never fails to bring on the tears, because it reminds us of what Jesus did for us and how much we love Him.

It's been a tradition for us for the past seven or eight years now--we try not to watch that movie any other time of the year, because we like to save it for Good Friday.

Then, of course, on Easter Sunday, we celebrate!  We give each other a card (the rule is, NO bunnies or chickens or eggs--only a celebration of the real meaning of Easter).  We go to church together (okay we always do that), which is a romantic thing to do! Afterwards, we spend the afternoon with our families, which isn't so unusual. But it's our special Good Friday tradition, with just the two of us, that makes that weekend so meaningful.  We look forward to it all year long!
