A girl I dated in high school had captivated my heart on a beach trip, but I was the sort who had no confidence when it came to making the first move for a kiss. We dated a long time with no lip contact. On her birthday, I decided to bake and decorate a cake myself, making a great romantic inroads and possibly leading to a first kiss.
The surprise cake and family party went well. When it was time to leave, we stepped outside and she thanked me for the surprise. This was it; maybe it was just me but she looked as if she had a “go on and kiss me” look on her face.
But on my way to her lips, her half-blind black lab walked over and drove his slobbery snout right between my legs. Needless to say, it broke the moment for me and all my confidence. And I never did get that kiss; to this day I don’t know if she knows what exactly happened.
She’s married to one of my hometown best friends now, and I found a girl in college who didn’t have a dog.
