I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Athena and I began a kitchen
remodel, ripping out walls, flooring and all the existing cabinets.
Because of the project there was no issue last week.
I’m happy to report that all the new cabinets and appliances are in
and functional and through the weeks of chaos we still haven’t had our
first fight (and I don’t ever plan on starting one either — Athena
is just too cute to ever think about fighting with her). Every time I
mention that we have been married over 12 years and have never fought,
people want to know our “secret” — that was the inspiration for my
2nd book, 50 Secrets of Blissful Relationships.

tips and ideas and I posted 21 of the best ones on my site. Even if
you will never build or remodel, there are some really creative ideas
you will be able to use elsewhere.

Playing Your Cards Right
by Michael Webb
http://theromantic.com/
The other night Athena was sitting on the floor, folding a basket of
clothes. I have never liked doing laundry or the dishes so I try to
help out in other ways like making dinner, picking up around the house
and taking care of the gardening. I don’t think my wife likes to do
the laundry either, but she does it every week and never complains
about it. While I was watching her fluffing and folding shirts I
began to think how thankful I was that my underwear drawer was never
empty. I went into my office and picked out a card from my secret
stash and scribbled a quick note to thank her for always making sure
my drawer was full of underwear and then placed it in the drawer for
her to find when she was putting the freshly folded clothes away.
Because I had some blank greeting cards on hand, it was easy to do
something nice on the spot while I was thinking about how much I
appreciated my wife. I keep a stash on hand and sometimes leave them
various places around the house for her to find.
Athena particularly likes the Victorian cards that are reprints of
cards used about a hundred years ago. I try to buy a variety and I
concentrate on buying them blank inside so I can use them for nearly
any occasion. The night my wife was doing laundry, I happened to have
a card with a little girl washing something on a washboard. It looked
as though I planned all week to have the card there when laundry day
came up.
