If you have been thinking about advertising in The RoMANtic Tip of
the Week, you might want to hurry. I only have a handful of spots
still available between now and Valentine’s Day. Most are already
sold out.

Thanks to you who support my sponsors. I try to pick only those who
have quality products and services. I have rejected a number of
businesses who were interested in sponsoring this e-zine. I think too
highly of all of you to fill my e-mails with junk just to make a few
extra dollars.

Have a romantic week. — Michael

great stories.

This week’s contest is about photographs. Have you ever used photos
in a creative way to express your love? Share your idea and you might
win a pre-press copy of the new book, If Love is a Game, These are the
Rules.

E-mail your entry (with mailing address) mailto:tipofweek@aol.com

CREATING A CULTURAL CALENDAR
by Michael Webb

No matter how small or large of a city you live in, you are bound to
hear people with the same complaint: “there is nothing to do here.”
When Athena and I moved from one of the largest cities in the U.S. to
Raleigh, North Carolina, you would expect us to say the same thing.
Hardly.

If one knows where to look and if you look often enough, there is
always something going on somewhere. When we moved here, Athena and I
began keeping a “cultural calendar” since we were not yet familiar
with all the festivals and events that were available.

When I read the Sunday paper and notice something interesting coming
up I cut it out, and then put the details on our calendar. We do the
same thing with the weekly entertainment papers we read. I asked to
be put on the mailing list for the various museums and concert
promoters in the area and they each send me a yearly calendar.

Often, some of the more interesting events can’t afford a large
advertisement (or don’t even need to advertise) so it is important to
take a look at the listings of upcoming events printed in the local
paper. By writing down these events there is never an excuse of
“there is nothing to do around here” and we don’t miss the shows we
really want to see.

There is probably 10 times more events on our calendar than we would
ever have the time to do. Like a Boy Scout, a good romantic is always
prepared.
