Appliances do seem unromantic but when the wives in my marriage therapy practice complain about them, I tell them about the research often quoted by marriage researchers, Scott Stanley and Howard Markman, from the University of Denver that show that a couple who purchases appliances rather than entertainment centers and other things have a better chance at having a happy, lifelong marriage.
In our workshops, Phil & I quote the research and tell people to stop at Circuit City on the way home if they really love each other.
