My father owns a paint store in my hometown, and one Christmas I decided to wrap my wife’s gifts a little differently. Dad keeps unused extra paint cans of various sizes in the back for those who want to store leftover paint in smaller containers. They have a coated interior and no labels. I got several from him in various sizes (gallons, quarts and pints) and decorated the outside of them with wrapping paper and permanent markers.
Then I “canned” many of my wife’s gifts – her shirt, her necklace, her make-up, her perfume, etc., all surrounded by various colors of tissue paper – and then hammered on the lid. When my wife and I got up on Christmas morning, she had a stack of cans to open using her first gift: a wrapped paint can opener. She still talks about that as one of my most unique romantic ideas.
