My boyfriend realized I had a difficult time with food. He loves sweets. He refuses to diet because he works out instead.
To help me, he chose not to eat sweets around me. He ate less at meals with me and generally helped me get a work out that would help tone my muscles and lose some weight. (He has some expertise in working out.) He also walked with me, despite a bad foot that needed possible surgery. He talked about some of the triggers I had and how I could do things differently.
We also danced together which was the most fun. I got my endurance up too. (I had had two major surgeries within a year!) His gentleness was the most helpful of all. He never criticized my weight and cared for me as a person, not my weight.
