Romantic Disasters
HALF-BAKED PLAN
submitted by: Amy Jackson

I’m a baker, so I baked his favorite recipe of chocolate chip cookies, but made them extra large and put a Hershey’s Hug and Kiss in the middle of each cookie. He loves chocolate covered pretzels so I got a small bag of minis from the candy store and tied them with red ribbon. I foundĀ a card that had a picture of a sneaky-looking dog on it and he was opening his coat like a guy selling fake watches going “Pssst” (which was appropriate as part of my plan) and I drew some hugs and kisses on the card leading away from the dog. I also got some star lilies because they smell so nice and are the right color for Valentine’s day.
When I got to his apartment, I went up to the roof and left the big cookies up there. I then proceeded to leave a trail of hugs and kisses down the 2 flights of steps with the other gifts mixed in between. I alternated hug, kiss, hug, kiss (which was part of the problem because it took a while to alternate them) as I worked my way to his door where I was going to leave a small paper gift bag (the one he used to give me my firstĀ Valentine gift) and the card. The bag was to collect the hugs and kisses and the card told him to follow the trail. Then I was going to go up to the roof and call from my cell phone and ask him to help me carry something in from the parking lot.
Now here’s the sticky part. I was about 10 feet from his door (and finishing the trail) when he opened it and came out! I was so crushed that I started to cry. I had almost pulled off a wonderful surprise, but not quite! I gave him the bag and the card and told him that I’d meet him where I had planned to meet him.
He did love the surprise, but I was quite bummed that I could not pull it off the way I had intended. And he felt bad for making me cry, but it was because I was due for our visit and he was coming out to check the parking lot to see if I was okay. So you can’t get too mad at a guy for that.
