My now husband and I had decided to go to Six Flags for a first date but he slid into 2nd base and took most of his shin off so walking wasn’t an option. My friend was going to be playing in a Jazz band in a local club and I thought that might be a fun first date.
I hadn’t been on a date in 15 years and was really out of practice. I bought a beautifully colored shirt and my tight jeans and my boot clogs, (OK it was the 80s) and little did I know that the fabric would get very loose when it got warm. The neck became too low and started falling over my shoulder or going way too low in front. I didn’t want him to think I was naughty and I kept pulling up my shirt.
After about 15 minutes of me tugging at my neckline, my husband, then my date, said “This is against my better judgment but you look so uncomfortable” and he gathered about 4 inches of fabric behind my neck with his hand on the back of my chair. It pulled my neck up modestly speaking and he left his hand there for the rest of the evening, drinking his Coke with the other hand.
I knew then that I had found a lovely man and we were married 2 years later. We’ve been married 16 years and we’re goony about each other still. The jazz that night was great and it was a very romantic evening. We got to 6 Flags on our 4th wedding anniversary….better late than never.
