When I was in high school I had a very good “boy” friend who was just that … one of my best friends. We never really dated each other exclusively but we spent a lot of time together and he spent a lot of time with me at my parents house. He taught me to drive my first stick shift and he was always there when I needed him.
I always knew he wanted our relationship to be more but I just didn’t feel I loved him in that way. It was not unusual for him to kiss me good-bye when he left my parents house.
On this particular day he grabbed me around the waist to hoist me up to his level (he was a bit taller than me) for that good-bye kiss. Just as he did this and his lips touched mine, all in one motion, the grabbing me tightly around my waist caused me to pass gas!!! This is not cool when you’re 17! Needless to say he dropped me the 12 inches I was above ground as he roared in laughter. I can still see the look on his face as mine was turning red. It was impossible for me to deny what had just happened so I joined in on the laughter to hide my embarrassment.
Just last year I was visiting my home town and he and I got together for dinner. This was the first time I had seen him in about ten years. As you may have guessed, over dinner he has this smirk on his face and he says “do you remember that time I picked you up to kiss you in your parents living room?” Again, 30 years later, we were still able to roar in laughter.
