As I expected, *100 Promises* was the clear winner of last weeks
contest.  It received 80 percent of the votes with many saying that
they had tears in their eyes by the end of the piece.  It wasn’t the
bouquet that was remarkable, it was the other part.  If you haven’t
read it yet, you can do so here:

Extremely Fortunate
by Michael Webb
http://www.TheRomantic.com

You have probably heard about the guy who used a fortune cookie to
propose to his girlfriend.  I guess it was original at one point, but
its a bit cliche by now.  I hear that idea all the time.

I think something more dramatic and romantic would be a love letter,
piece of jewelery or yes, even a proposal inside a GIANT fortune
cookie.  These cookies are about the size of your hands and are
actually fairly easy to make.

To make this extra special, melt a cup of chocolate chips in the
microwave and dip the ends of the cookie in it and let harden.  Here’s
the recipe.  Now go cook up some romance.

GIANT FORTUNE COOKIES

1 cup-all purpose flour

2 tablespoons cornstarch

half cup sugar

half teaspoon salt

half cup salad oil

half cup egg whites (whites of about 4 large eggs)

1 tablespoon water

2 tablespoons vanilla

Prepare fortune, poem or note to include in cookies.  Cut or fold the
paper so it is approximately 1″ x 3″ in size.

Mix all the dry ingredients and then add oil and egg whites until
smooth; beat in water and vanilla.

Drop one third cup of batter onto a greased baking sheet and spread
evenly into a 10-inch circle.  Bake only one or two at a time in a 300
degree oven for about 14 minutes or until light golden brown.; if
underbaked, cookies will tear during shaping.

With a wide spatula, remove one cookie at a time from over.  Working
quickly, flip it onto a your hand (please use a towel or wear cotton
gloves).  Place fortune in center of cookie and fold it in half, but
do not crease it.  Then fold the two ends towards each other and hold
for a minute or two while it hardens.  Repeat until all the batter is
used.  Makes 6.
