A Hug Every Night

Currently I am in a long distance relationship with a very sweet girl
who lives 600 miles away.  Of course we keep in touch with email and
we’re always sending little packages to each other, usually a tape of
songs that mean things to us.

Her birthday was coming up and I couldn’t think of anything to get for
her.  I had some small ideas for gifts but I wanted something
meaningful.

She recently was going through some family problems and told me she
really wanted a hug from me more than anything else, and I told her
that if I were there, of course I would hug her.  Then I had an idea.

I’m in college and couldn’t afford much, but creativity was never a
problem for me.  And being a cartooning major, drawing cute pictures
wasn’t hard either.

So I bought a plain, blank white pillowcase and drew a cartoon image
of myself with my arms outstretched.  Anytime she needed to, she could
get a hug from pillow-me.
