~~~ From the Editor ~~~
For our 15 year anniversary last month Athena bought me something
some people would consider to be “unromantic”. She bought me an
appliance. Actually, with the right thought, yes, even appliances
can be great romantic gifts.
What she gave me was a Cuisinart ice cream maker. Good ice cream is
one of my all time favorite desserts. Now I can have it in just 20
minutes whenever I want some. I have already made ice cream, frozen
yoghurt and even frozen kefir (more tart, but very tasty). It was
the perfect gift for me.
I have a selection of romantic appliances on my site –
~~~ Tip of the Week ~~~

Rainy Day Delight
by Kay
http://www.TheRomantic.com/

In Southern California, we are not very used to rain, so when we had
weeks on end of downpours this past winter, it was imperative that
the love of my life and I do some creative things to not go stir
crazy in our home. After all the basic board games and movies and
home cooked meals I could stand, I decided it was time to make a
change.

Since I don’t work, but Christopher does, I have about 7 hours a day
where I am alone to get things done. Usually I sleep in a bit,
seeing as how he gets up at 4:30 to leave for his job. One morning
during the rains though, I pretended to go back to sleep so he would
not get suspicious. Then as soon as he left, I got up and got to
working on my surprise. You see, Chris and I are both outdoor
people. We love to enjoy nature on walks and hikes in the nearby
mountains and with the rain, we were both missing out on our
together time in nature. So I decided to turn our 3 bedroom
apartment into a outdoor refuge.

I started in the living room and covered all the furniture with some
old brown sheets to simulate the mountain dirt. Then I used craft
paper to make 3-D bugs to put all over the walls. I think that the
deformed ladybug was my favorite. Then I borrowed some of the
neighbor’s daughter’s stuffed animals to make a nature scene. I
even used a blow-up palm tree that we had from a previous Hawaii
theme party we threw.

The next room I chose to conquer was the computer room. I put a
blue blanket, rolled-up in cellophane on the floor to create a
river. Then I took our potted house plants and flowers around the
“river” to create a river canyon in our computer. I even downloaded
some babbling brook noise on the computer so that Chris would even
be able to hear the sounds of nature.

The last room was our room. I made a picnic on the bed of berries
that I placed in a basket and labeled as “Fresh Picked from the
river trail”. I tidied up the room and tried to make the ambiance
as romantic as possible. I lifted up all the blinds on the windows
and let the rain crash down on the window-panes for the nature
noise. I lit the room with candles on the shelves to make “stars”
and put a film on nature in the DVD player.

When Chris got home that day, we were able to take a “stroll” from
the base of the mountain, to the river, to the picnic that I had
waiting under the “stars”. It was fun to reminisce about some of
our outdoor walks, things we had seen, and our favorite memories in
nature together. Also, it was nice, for a short night to be
“outside” under the “stars” while the rest of the city was getting
restless from the weeks spent inside because of the rain.
