The other day I was telling my 5 year old daughter that some parents
don’t love their children when they buy things that are bad for
them. She gently corrected my poorly worded statement. “Dad. They do
love their kids. They just are making bad decisions.” From the mouths of
babes…

Burma Shave Birthday

A few years ago, I was dating a man who insisted I not give him
anything for his birthday.

Not knowing what to do, but still wanting to be thoughtful of the
event, I took some old election road signs, which were discarded
by the side of a highway. I redid them using their frame to hold
up my own sign.

Each banner contained one word: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUANE YOU’RE THE
KING OF MY HEART! I posted them up at 2 a.m. the morning of his
birthday so he would see them on the drive out of his neighborhood
on his way to work that day.

Before he even saw the first sign, his neighbors and joggers were
wishing him happy birthday as he went out to get his morning paper.
