Sweetest Day is just around the corner.  What, you don’t know about
Sweetest Day?  It’s a fairly popular holiday, especially in the
mid-west and is gaining ground.  It is celebrated on October 19 this
year and has been around since 1922.  Some people think it is more
romantic than Valentine’s Day since not everyone celebrates it.

If you would like to know a little more, I have some details on my
site at http://theromantic.com/sweetestday.htm

Have a super sweet week! — Michael

Last weeks contest was on WELCOME HOME.  What great response I
received.  I picked 19 of the best ideas and put them on my site.
Most of my long-time readers know that TheRomantic.com is a “clean”
site and I rarely put anything remotely adult in nature on the site.
Romance and Physical Intimacy are not the same thing, despite what
some people have been taught.

However, last week’s contest, by nature, would draw some ideas that
were more adult in orientation.  After all, when a married couple has
been separated for months, there is a certain longing that will
naturally be addressed.  So, there are a few ideas posted that are
more mature than what I would usually allow.  You can read all the
great ideas at:
http://theromantic.com/stories/welcomehome/main.htm

I chose Isabelle Neubauer’s story, *Here Comes the Bride* to be the
winning story.  I really admire her courage at what she did to welcome
her sweetheart home.  Isabelle, go pick your prize.

This week’s contest is on SWEETEST DAY.  How have you celebrated this
October holiday in a unique, fun or creative way?

Submit your personal story and I’ll choose the best to win a trip to
prize vault which is filled with board games, CDs, books, professional
dance lessons and more. http://theromantic.com/prizes.htm

To enter this week’s contest, send your entry via
e-mailto:tipofweek@aol.com

Submissions must be received by Monday to be eligible for the prize.

Gifts That Make Her Go Ga-Ga!
by Michael Webb
http://theromantic.com/

(Ladies, you can use this advice for buying gifts for men too.)

It really isn’t that difficult to shop for women.  Most of them love
flowers, chocolate and perfume.  You really can’t go wrong by buying
one of those for your wife or girlfriend.  But is it what she really
wants?

If you listen closely and pay good attention to what she is saying,
you can discover what gift would make her overjoyed.  However, don’t
expect her to drop hints on command.  You must be listening for the
clues at all times.  She may indicate something she desires in May but
you need to buy her something for her birthday in October.

Listen and watch for the clues and if necessary, write them down so
when it comes gift buying time, you will know exactly what to
purchase.  Notice what she pampers herself with: tickets to the opera,
coffee table books, new CDs, trips to the spa, etc.

Have you ever noticed how she admires a piece of clothing or jewelry
in a store’s window display or on someone else?  Does she look at
magazines and show you an advertisement and say “wouldn’t this look
great in our dining room” or “I would like to have something like this
one day.”  How about the time you went over to another couple’s house
and she really admired something there.  A word of caution – just
because she liked your neighbor’s bread machine doesn’t mean she would
like one for an anniversary or special occasion.  If you want to buy
her a bread machine and surprise her with it one Sunday morning with a
fresh loaf of bread baking in it, that would be fine.  But as a
general rule, don’t give appliances or other impersonal gifts for
special occasions!

Hopefully, the next time she opens one of your gifts she won’t say
“you shouldn’t have” — and really mean it.
