This summer, I had to leave my wife for 6 weeks to train for my new job this fall. The first week was spent in Detroit. I was then able to spend a day at home before flying to Houston for the next 5 weeks to further my training.
Once on the airplane, I opened up my book bag to get a book to read, when I found a brown package in my book bag. Upon opening the package, I find a book written by my wife about me and us!! She started the book with a brief introduction of my childhood and had a few pictures from earlier. Each chapter was then a different stage in our life. She wrote about how we met, how I proposed, her graduation, our wedding day, the honeymoon, our first house, our first pet (a pot-bellied pig named Harley), my graduate school graduation… The last chapter was just started but not finished… our first child (she is due October 2). She bought a blank journal book and sticker paper from an office supply store. She then created the book just like a real book would be. She created a front and back cover. She wrote an introduction and a title page. In each chapter, she put appropriate pictures that she scanned then printed out onto the sticker paper to allow them to stick in the book. The best part is that she only used about 50 pages so far, so we have a lot more room to write as the “story” of our life continue to unfolds.
I called her when I got to Houston to thank her for the book and discovered that she had created the whole thing during the first week I was gone. Although several thousand miles apart, I could pick the book up anytime and transport us together while reading. I also had to show the book to all of my friends while I was there!!
