WHEN POORER IS RICHER

In our poorer days we didn’t have a lot of money to get gifts for each other. So I was a crafts person and he had a bit of the artist in him, too.

The one year that stands out for me was the year he took aluminum foil and construction paper and made different hearts for each day for the twelve days of Christmas. (These later became ornaments on the tree that we chopped down from the back yard). I had made the characters of the twelve days of Christmas. That is how in tune we were to each other. So it was a cheap, but meaningful Christmas for us and every time I look at those ornaments I remember that time and how far we have come since then. It might not have been much, but it was from the heart and meant much more than a piece of jewelry or gems ever could.
