Last year we visited Williamsburg, VA and bought a clear plastic ornament with our last name etched into the ornament. This year it is hanging on our tree right in the front where everyone can see it.
What she doesn’t know is that on Christmas Eve, I plan to take it down, take off the top and place a special necklace inside it.
Then I plan to put it back in the same place on the tree and Christmas morning give her a card with a riddle on it that will say something like:
Last year we did something special, and made a memory,
Something that spoke of our love for each other for all the world to see.
This year that memory will be special on our tree As it shows the world once again – my love – to you, from me.
This should be especially meaningful for her since, or the past 10-12 years, I have given our children a treasure hunt on Christmas morning. I place an envelope with money for each of them somewhere in the house and then give them 5-6 riddle “clues” to make them hunt for them.
She has enjoyed watching them solve their riddles to do their “treasure hunt “, but this year, she’ll get to participate in one of her own.
