For our wedding, as a way to express my love to my husband, I searched my Bible and picked out four particular Scriptures that I committed to live out in our marriage. For instance, I committed to “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than myself. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Phillipians 2:3-4). My husband did the same for me. My favorite of his was Genesis 29:20–“So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her”!
Our pastor used the Scriptures in our wedding service and, following that day, I printed out the verses with the computer and framed them so that we would always have a reminder of how we want to treat each other. Though we try to use all of Scripture to guide our marriage, it is helpful to have those specific commitments that we made on our wedding day hanging up as a motivating reminder!
