My daughter was only five weeks old, and my husband had to go out of town. Of course, I was upset about the timing and was going to miss him terribly. He kept on telling me, “Don’t worry. I know that you will not even miss me.”
He told me how he had it arranged for his mom to watch the baby and he had a surprise planned for me for the day. So of course, now I was twice as anxious…having to leave my newborn baby for the first time AND have him out of town. But no matter how much I objected to his “surprise,” he insisted.
The night came that he left town, and he left me a note. I still had no idea what he had planned. The note told me to go to a certain resort near by at a certain time the next day, and go up to the front desk and tell them who I was. They would take it from there. So after dropping my baby off at my mother-in-law’s house, I headed to the resort. I figured he must have a special lunch set up for me. When I told them at the front desk who I was, the woman picked up the phone and dialed an extension. I heard her say, “Our VIP is here.”
At this point the concierge comes to greet me and tells me to follow her. She takes me around to the spa and introduced me to the spa manager. Here a huge bouquet of flowers was awaiting me with a note that read “To my beautiful wife. Enjoy your day, you deserve it. I love you, Matthew.”
The spa manger goes on to tell me what was in store for me for the day: A one-hour massage, followed by a facial, pedicure, manicure, and hair style! I was so touched! To top everything off, my husband had arranged for my favorite salad to be catered to me during my pedicure. After I was all done with my treatments, there was one more surprise for me. The manager of the resort served me a wonderful dessert on the terrace. It was heart shaped chocolate shells filled with mousse, topped with blueberries and raspberries, and surrounded by chocolate-dipped strawberries.
All day long, people kept referring to “the VIP,” and they treated me as if I were a movie-star! It was the sweetest thing ever. If there is anything a new mom needs it is to be pampered, because she tends to forget her needs in trying to meet all of her new baby’s needs. I thought it was the most romantic and thoughtful thing in the world!
