On our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, we were broke. So several weeks before Valentine’s Day, we agreed to make each other gifts using only what we had at home (to save money).
I decided to make my husband a two-part gift. First I made a great big poster for his office. I put hearts and love notes all over it, then the night before I snuck into the office and put it on the wall so that when he got to work it was there waiting for him.
The second part was that I took craft items (construction paper, pipe-cleaners, fabric, etc.) and made him a bouquet of flowers.
I was so proud of myself! I wondered all day how he liked the poster and the flowers. That night he bragged on my talents. Then, he presented me with my gift. I was so touched!
He had written several songs and poems about me and his love for me that he had typed up in a lovely format with our names on the front page. It was the most beautiful and thoughtful gift that anyone has ever given to me! All I could do was cry (from joy, of course).
My husband proved that gifts come from the heart and not the pocket book.
