My husband was recently laid off from Lucent, a job that he thought he would hold for years to come. Even I was astounded to see such an intelligent individual such as himself let go. He had been searching for a new job for a tiring 4 months and hadn’t gotten as much as a call back for an interview. He threw in the towel and gave up.
He began to feel worthless and unable to support me. I decided to do something to show him how much he means to me, regardless of whether or not he has a job. Looking at all his newspaper clippings from his job hunts, I got an idea.
I created a “job” of my own, a very non-business-like one. I became the employer and listed all the skills that he had that I required. Then I went ahead and prepared his “make-believe” resume and hid it in the next day’s newspaper. When he found the resume and listing, both in my handwriting, he couldn’t help but smile.
When he saw just how much I loved him, that helped him realize that having a job isn’t the most important thing.
