Using Love Poems
SING, SING A POEM
submitted by: Rese Ammons

My husband and I met at tech school in the Air Force. We were married there, but separated only a week after we were married. Even though our assignments took us to the same place, I still had another month of training before I could join him. Being newly weds it was somewhat hard being away from him. He would call me every night at the same time on the dorm pay phone.
I decided I wanted to give him something special to think of me so I wrote a song that I would sing to him. It took me a week to get it perfected and I had picked the date I would sing it to him, which was our two week anniversary.
He called that night, right on schedule. I got very serious with him on the phone and told him there was something I needed to tell him. I think he was afraid I was already breaking up with him, as he got very quiet. With about 50 other people standing around waiting to use the phones, I sang him the song I wrote, and although he won’t admit it, I’m pretty sure it brought tears to his eyes. I heard him sniffling through the phone. We will have been married 13 years this October 24th and I still sing that song to him often. I have included the words here.
Beside the moon, on a starry night,
Shines a star with brilliant light.
That’s the star I wished on, when I wished for you.
And every night when the sun goes down
I’m reminded of the joy I’ve found.
A happiness that only comes, from a love so true.
Star Light, Star Bright,
Thank you for my wish tonight.
Of all the things Life has to give
I have a reason, now to live.
And even though we are apart
two hearts beat as just one heart.
My soul now completed,
By the love I found in you.
