Years ago when my parents were dating, my father sent my mother a love poem for Valentine’s day. They were in separate parts of the country at the time. He was in graduate school at Yale and she was working as a nurse in Virginia.
The poem was sent through the mail and miraculously survived intact. I say that because my father had written his poem with the use of glued-on conversation hearts in place of written words. It must have made an impact on my mother because she remembers it fondly to this day… and has told all us kids about Dad’s romantic gesture!
