My husband and I live in Texas and we love wildflowers, specifically bluebonnets. In April 2003, while still just dating each other, I decided to surprise him with a weekend trip to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin.
I sent him an email with just a picture of a bluebonnet and told him to prepare for a surprise the upcoming weekend. I planned a picnic lunch for us in the fields of wildflowers. We left for our trip and I told him where to drive to. We arrived at the Center and were disappointed cause the wildflowers were not blooming well there. So he suggested that we take off for Fredericksburg to the Wildseed Farm there.
We arrived and the fields were filled with bluebonnets. We were strolling thru the fields enjoying the beauty of it all when he took me in his arms and asked me if I knew how much he loved me. I jokingly said, “No, how much do you love me?” He then presented me with a ring and said “This is how much I love you”. Needless to say I said “YES!”.
We have now built a 12′ diameter hill in our front yard that is seeded with bluebonnets and wildflowers from the Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg, so every spring when they bloom we can relive the day that he told me how much he loved me.
