LONG DISTANCE VALENTINES

valentines day long distance relationship ideasI am a major in the US Army, currently deployed to Baghdad, Iraq. I wanted to do something special for my bride, who lives at our home in Heidelberg, Germany. My wife belongs to our local chapter of the Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC) who held a Valentine Dinner for the spouses of deployed soldiers.

Here is my attempt at a romantic Valentine’s Day surprise. I wrote a lengthy love letter to my bride, telling her how much she means to me, what a blessing she has been in my life, and that I’d marry her all over again in an instant about 2 weeks prior to Feb 14. I sent this letter to one of the representatives of PWOC to hand-deliver to my wife at the dinner.

We have limited Internet access, so I also fumbled my way through a German flower shop and coordinated to have her favorite flowers (yellow roses) delivered to her at home, shortly before the time she was planning to depart for the dinner.

She was overjoyed to receive the flowers (not expecting such a thing while I am in Iraq), and was left speechless when she received my love letter to her. Needless to say, she broke down in tears of joy and I find myself ever so much happier in Iraq after receiving her response of gratitude.

The message my wife got was that her husband truly loves her, cares about her and puts no one earth before her. And that was the exact message I wanted to convey!
